Welcome to Northern ACB Health Initiative

Improving access to culturally responsive healthcare for African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Northern Ontario.

ABOUT

Northern ACB Health Initiative is a community-focused non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to culturally responsive health and mental health services for African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities in Northern Ontario. We work to address systemic barriers that limit access to care, including geographic isolation, lack of culturally appropriate services, and low awareness of available supports. Our work is rooted in equity, inclusion, and community engagement, ensuring that individuals and families are supported in accessing care in a way that respects their cultural context and lived experiences.

MISSION & VISION

Mission

To advance health and wellbeing by providing culturally responsive physical and mental health support, education, and navigation services to African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Northern Ontario.

Vision

A future where African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Northern Ontario experience equitable access to healthcare, improved health outcomes, and a system that reflects and respects their cultural identities and lived experiences.

WHY WE EXIST

ACB communities in Northern Ontario face unique challenges in accessing healthcare, including limited access to culturally responsive services, lack of awareness of available supports, mistrust of healthcare systems, and barriers related to geography and system navigation. These challenges contribute to disparities in health outcomes. Northern ACB Health Initiative exists to bridge these gaps and ensure that individuals and families can access the care they need—when they need it.

OUR PURPOSE

Our work is guided by the following objectives: To advance health by providing culturally appropriate physical and mental health support services to African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Northern Ontario. To advance education through workshops, training, and public awareness programs on health and wellness. To address systemic barriers to healthcare access through navigation support, referrals, and community-based programming. To undertake activities that support and strengthen these objectives.
